Facade Material

Use the Facade Material preset in Crit Space to swap a building's facade material using a sample swatch, from timber to brick or anything else you have a texture for.

Open page in AI / Copy page prompt

Give the Image Generator your render, a material swatch and a short prompt, and it applies that material to the facade. Name anything you want to keep in the prompt.

Start from the preset

Open Crit Space, choose Facade Material from the preset picker and click Use preset.

How the preset works

  • Input image - the render you want to change. Ours is a visualisation of a building in London with a timber facade.
  • Material swatch - a sample of the new material, used as a reference. We used a dark brick texture from Architextures.
  • Prompt - what to replace and what to keep
  • Image Generator - creates the new version of your render

Write the prompt

Say what to replace and what to keep. For this example we used:

"Replace the timber facade with this dark brick facade material. Maintain concrete base."

Naming the concrete base keeps the building's solid footing as it was.

The Prompt node asking to replace the timber facade with dark brick and keep the concrete base

Choose a model

Pick any model from the Image Generator's model list. We've been getting good results with the GPT Image models, but test a few and see which you prefer.

Compare the result

The facade changes from timber to dark brick, while the concrete base stays the same.

Use your own materials

Follow the same steps with your own render. Connect it as the input, add a material sample, either one you already have or one you've generated, and reuse the same prompt setup.

Next steps

  • Try a few materials and put the options side by side with a Compare node.
  • Group the options into a section and share them with your team.
  • Animate the result with Image to Video.
